Section 31: La Cabanasse – Chalet de Cortalets

It was so cold during the night. I am not sure if it was the weather or my body that couldn’t adjust. When I left camping, I was hesitating between walking on the trail or taking the most tourist attraction in the region – the yellow train. I decided on the train. The views were really nice, and the train itself very cute. What’s more, I gained two days and changed my ticket to Poland, so I would be able to see my family earlier. It is very popular, so quite crowded, especially on weekends. I stopped at the Vernet-les-Bains just to learn that it is Sunday and there were no buses, and I needed to return on the trail. Well, I took a train to Pradès, and from there, walked 4km to join the GRT38 trail that led to Chalet des Cortalets. I might have skipped some part of the trail, but the ascent by GRT38 was pretty hard. More than 1700 meters up.

I saw the sea that day. So I knew that the end of my adventure was coming! I felt sad on one hand, and on the other, I couldn’t wait to go back to Poland and spend some time with my family. Since I was going to move to Hong Kong, I tried to spend as much time possible with them. It was surprising how the landscapes changed, and the weather! The air was way drier than before. While heading towards the Chalet I bumped into two guys. One stopped and said, “I know you». At the beginning, I thought he was joking, but we actually met close to Etang Lanoux. They had the same plan as me, climb the Canigou in the morning.

Possibility to camp close to Chalets de Cortalets.
